Beer, hot dogs, the smell of gasoline, dirt in the air, and loud engine noise: it seems impossible that I had never stumbled upon this combo before. I never paid much attention to Speedway. Up to somewhere at the beginning of this year, when a friend told me that The World Championship is coming to Croatia. We immediately bought the tickets, and a few months later, we found out we had discovered one of our new favorite sports.
There is something about Speedway that rubs me just right. Twenty drivers race in 20 short runs (only four laps each). After that, there are two semifinals and one last final run. The runs are short but charged with action and tension: something like horse racing on crack if that makes any sense.
I almost didn’t bring my camera, but I am so glad I did. Enjoy the photos.
